Published on March 21, 2010 By BoXXi In Personal Computing

Hey guys.... Whwn I open "my computer", I am seeing 3 disk drives listed, My primary drive (C), my secondary drive (E), and a drive called Q Disk. The thing is, I don't have a third disk!! nothing else is connected to the computer, so why is the sytem telling me I have a "Q Disk"?? Any ideas? It's driving me nuts!

P.S. It doesn't ALWAYS show this disk............

What OS are you running, BoXXi?

If you have a card reader for like an SD card or something attached, sometimes windows gets confused about drives.

Maybe a network shared storage drive? (I don't think so).

The other possibility is its a virtual drive run by a program like Daemon tools and I think Windows 7 may have a similar application (at least some versions of it do)...this is the one I'd check first.

Or it may be someone in the game is actually a spirit and has posseseed your computer in order to wreak revenge for you nuking their worlds.

This drive often comes from AppV. Did you install the Click and Run version of Office 2010 Beta ?

This drive is required if you use the Click 'n Run Version (Starter or Office Home and Business 2010) of Office 2010. It does not occur in the Office 2010 Professional Plus Beta.

Totally unrelated question?  What IconPackage is that?

My computer came with a partitioned hard drive. The small partition on mine carries windows backup install and factory settings.

Ah Thank you Ausvet! i DO have office 2010 beta installed, so that will be it.

Natas2: That icon set is "IconStore" by Lillian PenGUIn. it was an entry in the last GUI championships and should still be available in the IconPackager section, or at the GUI Championships site.

SIN-Imperium: The only game that has EVER been on my computer is "DX Ball".... hehe

Thanks for the help guys.

Your logic is impeccable there FL.  Sell a program that got entrnched by being packed with the OS, then charged for, then charged to upgrade then charged for portions of and now tries to take over your pc and becomes obsolete in a year or two whereyou can pony up more big bucks to upgrade.

Truly, this is evil.

I'll say it is!  My mother had a trial version on her HP notebook, and had no end of trouble with it.

Trial version my arse!!!  First off it wouldn't let her open or create documents without first registering it, and when she tried to do that everything went as planned until the 'Buy Now' button, which could NOT be bypassed, detoured around or got over... under, either.

In essence, then, this trial of Office Professional was a useless POS.... and mother couldn't uninstall it, so I advised her to use OpenOffice until she visited from the UK and I could do it for her.  Yeah, well I did that... and freed up 22gb of space uninstalling that and a load of other bloatware.  Yup 22 gb of crapware on a 120gb drive... by the time the OS (Vista Home Premuim) was accounted for (16gb), she only had 82 gb left.

No wonder the damned thing was running so slow!  By the time she had installed the proggies she wanted, and had added the photos and video she wanted us to see, there was no free drive space left.  Yup, it was barely groaning along (and it's never going to be super fast with a 1.66ghz Celeron and non-upragadable on-board graphics), but after cleaning off all that junk (damned Office trial, GRRRR), doing a bit of maintenance and adding another gig of RAM, at least it boots up in under an hour now... by about 59 minutes 35 seconds, to be a little more precise.

After doing all that I got to thinking: "What the F**K was HP thinking: loading that much crapware onto a system with just a 1.66 Celeron, 1gb of Ram, a 6400GS GPU and a 120gb drive?"  Seems to me they were thinking: "Let's hope the f**k she doesn't know anything about it so she will constantly be in paying us to make it go for her."

I love having my mother come visit, that's real special, but I just hope that she doesn't come all this way (UK to Australia) next time she has puter issues... cos it works out to be a mighty expensive service.

Hmmm..... I don't use the Office program, (I'm just an artist dammit [tm] ) I installed it for my daughter so she could do her homework. Haven't had a problem with it though, seems to run real nice. And I'm not worried about uninstalling it, I'm real good at uninstalling stuff, nothing gets by me........

No matter having a son to fix anything is priceless at any cost. Makes the trip worth it and I would suggest https://secure.logmein.com/US/home.aspx

This will help some what to fix minor issues with software and bugs that may come up. But nothing can replace the trip for the reasons of having the hands on repair done by the family tech.

Nice to see you got it all worked out Boxxi. We are all glad to see you back and doing well again. Hope you stay with us for a long time now. Myself I did miss you and was very concerned with your health.
